"buquê de galhos secos" // 2018

Since I was little, I've always done researching about love without realizing it. In my creation I seek a ritualistic process - I think that this sense of a real, lived and experienced art is passed through artistic performance but it is also an extremely personal and significant act. Besides talking about love, and of all the consequent sensitive and emotional unfoldings it involves - I speak of flowers and branches. I´ve always collected, dried, frozen and drew these elements. I have now resolved to simply relate them to the theme that has always consumed my head and heart- they will be a metaphor for love. Relating something alive, something organic and something from nature, to represent something so ephemeral, so immense and intense and at the same time fragile and abstract as a feeling. Bringing references from Brigida Baltar, Richard Long, and Hamish Fulton, artists who refer to the art as a process and experience more than as a masterpiece, the collection of the dry branches also leads me to an abstract question because of the meaning I propose to them in this work-they would be a metaphor for dead emotions. I think this is one of the things love also brings us: blindness and apprehension. I think of this collection as a walk of apprehension of feelings, which can be playful and nostalgic because they once existed and were part of something beautiful (in this case, the branches were once part of a living tree), but also carry with them a weight of something forgotten, dead, old, that no longer exists. This antagonism of emotions in the same performance is also part of the work because it is often difficult to be clear when dealing with feelings that are so deep and so atrophied in our hearts. In the second part of the project, the liberation of these emotions collected, saved and consumed is contemplated. The burning of the branches was performed in this process, and related to a performatic reading. I pointed out a fragment of my personal diary, and decided to share it with the world-reading the pages, burning the words along with the branches representing the most intimate sensations of my soul.
